Drawing Our Shadows

To strengthen our shadow exploration, we inspired the children with a large sheet of paper, black crayons and the overhead projector. The children stood in front of the projector and noticed their shadow displayed on the large sheet of white paper. The children used a variety of different strategies to draw their shadow such as filling in their shadow with a crayon. Other children worked on making marks inside of the torso area of their shadow, and then working their way outwards.

Ramps: Pathways, Textures and Speed Bumps

The children have been exploring the how different surfaces affect how their car travels down the ramp and the path their car takes to get from the top of the slide to the bottom. Throughout the month, we have placed different types of surfaces on top of the ramp such as rolled up paper, bubble wrap and packaging paper. The children noticed that their car was able to travel down the packing paper and the "speed bumps" with a small push. However, the bubble wrap and the packaging paper required the children to navigate their car down the ramp from top to bottom.

Watercolor Exploration

The children and Mrs. Turfah spent sometime using the gourds to create different prints on their paper. We wanted to focus on how to visually represent the gourds with watercolor paint as our medium. We displayed the gourds in the middle of the table and gave the children with yellow, green and orange water color paint. The children represented the gourds with a variety of different colors and brush strokes.
